Face oils are not only for dry skin types:
When I was trying to solve my oily skin problems I reluctantly started using a face oil. It seemed counterintuitive for oily skin to apply oil but I had been doing my research and decided it sounded rational.
People with oily skin are always told that they should use oil free everything, benzoyl peroxideBenzoyl peroxide is a topical antibacterial agent that helps to fight acne-causing bacteria. Note that it contains the word pero..., harsh products that strip the skin and when they do all of this, the skin reacts by saying “I’m dry I need more oil” and it produces more oil to compensate.
It really is that simple. When you treat your skin with gentle products, exfoliate and introduce oil to your routine, your skin will react by saying “I have enough oil, I’m good, no need to produce too much more”.
My skin looks its absolute best when I use a facial oil. I apply it before bed and when I wake up my skin looks smooth, glows and feels incredibly soft.
What face oils WILL NOT do:
- Make your skin more oily.
- Make your face look shiny.
- Clog your pores if you opt for a mineral oil free product.
- Feel greasy on your skin.
What face oils WILL do:
- Feel magnificently hydrating and leave your skin feeling super soft.
- Make your skin glow.
- Strengthen the skin barrier.
- Balance oil production. Yes your skin will feel hydrated and be less likely to over-produce its own oils.
A few things to note:
If you have oily skin you will be better off using your face oil at night, particularly if you are wearing make-up during the day.
I find that during make-up applications, when an oil is applied to someone with dry skin, the end result is an absolutely perfect, glowing result. But with oily skin it can effect how long your make-up will stay in place and I would instead opt for a lightweight moisturiser.
If you have normal skin, you can experiment and see if a facial oil will sit nicely under your make-up. Some face oils have a drier finish than others and are therefore more suitable to be worn under make-up.
You can still apply your moisturiser over your face oil or even add a few drops of your facial oil to your moisturiser.
The 3 Best Face Oils:
1) Sunday Riley Juno Oil
This was the first face oil that I dared to try and I still love it. I have no idea how many bottles I have been through but I started using it in 2016 and I still have a bottle of it now.

Try adding a few drops to your moisturiser as a first step. If you have been trying to combat oily skin and nothing you are doing is working, what is the harm in trying something new? I did and I have never looked back.
