Face masks to me have always been a luxury and not a necessity in skincare. I absolutely love using them. It is a great way to treat your skin and pamper yourself.

There are so many different types of masks designed to target different concerns – detoxifying, lightening, lifting and firming, acne specific, hydrating and exfoliating.

I am going to pick my top 3 face masks of all time across different categories. The best of the best for their specific purpose.

Perricone MD Chlorophyll Detox Mask

Formerly known as “Chloroplasma” this is the best face mask I have ever used, bar none for any purpose. It is a detoxifying face mask but it does much more than that. If my skin is looking dull and I use this mask, it looks bright. If I have a break out, it clears it up. If my skin is feeling tight and dehydrated, it feels smooth and hydrated after using this mask. I cannot recommend this mask highly enough it is my all time favourite mask and worth every cent. When working in skincare I used to take sample pots home containing this mask as I loved using it so much and then I eventually purchased it. I also started to steer other staff, my friends and my customers away from the more popular masks because this is just so superior and the price point is around the same as the other masks. I converted so many people into fans of this mask.

The mask is a light grey/green colour with chlorophyll-enriched microcapsules that burst upon application. Now you must use this product correctly to get the benefits from it. As you massage the mask in, use pressure until the microcapsules burst and you will see that as the chlorophyll comes out the mask will turn a deep green colour. Allow the mask to dry and then remove with a warm face wash cloth and be amazed at how baby soft your face feels.

The chlorophyll minimises pores, smooths fine lines and wrinkles and rebalances oil-prone skin. The mask also contains a copper complex to visibly improve firmness and elasticity and papaya enzyme visibly smooths and brightens. There is literally nothing that this mask does not address and you will see smooth, clear skin with smaller looking pores after you remove the mask. It is just incredible.

All Perricone products are fragrance free in line with the brands philosophy of clean skin care and anti-inflammatory ingredients. This mask is also free from soy, nuts, fish, phthalates, sulphates, parabens, talc, mineral oil and is cruelty-free.

(2) La Mer The Treatment Lotion Hydrating Mask

As the name suggests this mask contains a generous dose of the treatment lotion in sheet mask form. I don’t love sheet masks because I have a really small face and I find that they end up in my hair line and don’t fit my nose and mouth area properly as they are too big. But this sheet mask is entirely incredible and great value for money. One single sheet mask is AUD$36, which for La Mer is very cheap. It is also my top pick for using on long haul flights if you are not overly concerned about scaring people or looking silly.

The sheet mask feels luxurious . It utilises millions of jet-spun micro-fibres that hug the skin to deliver concentrated hydration. The mask should be left on for 8 minutes but I usually leave it on until it feels the same temperature as my skin. It is initially very cold when applied.

The skin-plumping benefits are incredible. In fact, as I mentioned sheet masks do not fit me properly and this mask ends up covering my lips, causing my lips to feel visibly tingly and plumped as if I have used a lip plumper.

It contains La Mer’s Miracle Broth, a cell renewing elixir that calms redness and inflammation and the Revitalising Ferment, a fusion of algae and sea minerals to replenish skin cells.

It is made without parabens, phthalates and sulphates.

Hack: There is so much product in this mask. After removing the mask rub the treatment lotion into your skin and then squeeze the remaining lotion from the mask into a jar and you can apply it with your hands on another occasion. There is so much product left over that it is worth doing this.

I love using this when I take a long-haul flight as it protects my skin from dehydration and I arrive at my destination looking fresh.

(3) Ren Flash Rinse 1 Minute Facial

This product is not your typical mask. It is a gritty Vitamin C, brightening treatment that you leave on for just one minute. During brand training with the Ren team, I learned how to use this product in conjunction with another product to make it a true spa-like experience. I became addicted to it as my skin looked so bright and felt so amazing that I could not help but use it every couple of days.

Hack: Mix Rosa Centifolia No.1 Purity Cleansing Balm with a pea-sized amount of the flash rinse facial, dampen fingers to activate the Vitamin C and massage into face, leaving on for one minute. It is so much nicer to use it this way than on its own and because Ren is so affordable and the balm cleanser is an excellent cleanser it is well-worth purchasing both products.

The flash rinse one minute facial contains water-activated Vitamin C, copper and magnesium and is made without animal products, parabens and sulphates.

I am a former published International glamour model whose career in modelling has allowed me to work closely with dermatologists, dermal clinicians and make-up artists. After retiring from modelling I worked in the skin care industry as a skincare consultant and this work evoked a real passion to help other people look and feel their best and understand their skincare needs. This role also involved travelling internationally to meet with industry experts and niche brands that I grew to really love. During my modelling career in particular, I was frustrated by having a combination/oily skin type that made it difficult to get through photoshoots without having make-up wearing off and developing a shiny forehead and nose. I battled problematic skin during this time with breakouts and dehydration and tried everything from skincare and treatments recommended by dermatologists, to skin care that I found in cosmetic stores. During my career working as a skincare consultant I tried a colossal amount of products myself, listened to feedback from my customers and finally discovered not only a solution to my own skincare concerns but a philosophy about skincare which I am passionate to share with you. My aim is to share this knowledge and demystify skincare for my readers and share my simple, common sense approach to making your skin work for you
