Vitamin A or retinol is known as the best anti-ageing ingredient in skincare. As with all skincare, I think that serums are where you get the best value for your money so I will discuss what I consider to be the best 3 Vitamin A aka retinol serums.

I will spare you all the science behind retinol as there are millions of articles covering that. Except to say in summary that Vitamin A speeds up cell turnover to reveal smoother skin with fewer wrinkles. Suffice to say that if you consider hydrated, smooth skin that suffers fewer breakouts, has visibly smaller pores, fewer wrinkles and discolouration to be a good thing – Vitamin A is for you.

The Best 3 Vitamin A Retinol Serums

(1) Medik8 Retinol 10TR Intense Supercharged 1% Vitamin A Serum

There are varying strengths in this range. The brand suggests, as do dermatologists to begin with a lower strength retinol and work your way up gradually to a stronger one.

I jumped right into using the 1% product because I have used retinol products in the past. If you have not used a retinol before start with something more gentle from this range.

This is a time-release formula. A lot of brands are developing these to minimise the side-effects associated with using pure Vitamin A such as redness, dryness, flaking or peeling skin. It contains Vitamin E to enhance the stability of the Vitamin A and squalene for hydration.

This is a really pure product with very few ingredients on the ingredients list, which I am a big fan of. It feels very hydrating. I started using it every second night but then realised that my skin was tolerating it well and within a week I was using it every night.

My skin looks radiant, even toned, plump and really smooth. It also feels incredibly soft. It is such a pleasant serum to use, in fact my skin feels so soft after application that I feel as though I could skip my moisturiser.

Shut up and let me add it to my cart….

(2) Chantecaille Retinol Intense Plus

I simply love this product. It is a combination of pure retinol and Vitamin C. What is not to love about that? The brand uses mostly natural ingredients. I have bought it time and again. For a night cream/serum that does everything in one product this would be my number one choice. It is your serum and moisturiser in one product.

From younger people suffering from acne, to those who want brighter, firmer skin…this product is suitable for most and delivers exceptional results. It is also a gentle way to introduce yourself to retinol if you have not used it before.

I’m convinced….

(3) Dr Dennis Gross Wrinkle Recovery Overnight Serum

A time-release retinol serum combined with ferulic acid and niacinamide. This is an excellent serum that I used to recommend to a lot of my customers because it produces excellent results. It leaves the skin feeling soft and hydrated.

Take my money….
