Dimethicone

Dimethicone is a silicon-based polymer that, when used in beauty products, gives the formula an incredibly smooth, velvety, slippery feel. It is a very controversial ingredient because its skin smoothing properties are undeniable, when used in primers and foundations it absolutely gives the skin a beautiful smooth texture. However some people believe that it is pore clogging and can lead to congestion and breakouts. Dimethicone locks moisture into the skin by creating a film across it.

In my opinion it has its benefits. I do not mind it in my primers and foundations because it does make my skin look flawless. But I want it out of my serums and moisturisers because they are the first product to touch my skin, creating somewhat of a barrier before applying make-up with silicone. Furthermore at night I like to remove oil, dirt, sunscreen, pollution and silicon!  I sleep in my serums and moisturisers and I do not want silicone on my face for longer than is necessary. So I do opt for serums and moisturisers without any silicons.
